What makes this lab unique is our focus on fulfilling the
more demanding needs of artists, independents, students or old masters
from around the globe still interested in pushing the limits of
this endangered medium.
The goal of our lab is to work along side you, the film maker, achieving
your vision of the project by continuing to run the services which
suit your needs not just the very limited more popular runs of the
commercial labs. In addition to all the standard runs, we are the
only lab in Canada running Kodak’s new super 8 negative stock
and last year we began the very unusual service for a special client
of duplicating vintage regular 8 films in to brand new regular 8
prints!!
We have also gained a reputation for being able to ‘print
anything’ from hand processed films, hand painted films, sewn
films, shrunken films, melted films, films in decay, even sticky
films! Our resident film archivist Nathan requests that before contact
printing, films should be dry, not too thick and the perforations
should be free and clear for transport purposes!! When working with
materials in this manner its always a good idea to make inter negatives
from these one off masterpieces and we have found that besides the
traditional dupe stocks there are many other stocks which yield
quite stunning results.
Niagara Custom Lab is currently one of the very few labs left in
this country still working with 16mm, we are able to process both
colour and black & white as well as provide work prints, answer
prints and fully timed release prints. We are the only lab offering
cross processing and bleach bypass to colour stocks without additional
set up charges and our policy of no minimum charges means you only
get charged for what you bring in not the nearest 100 or 200ft mark!
We are also not afraid to push process your film as many stops as
you want, to either save an under exposed shot, ease off for something
that got blasted, or push it just to fatten up those little grains
till they pop off the screen!
Some new services we will be offering this time around are negative
cutting, title creation and some optical effects;
keep checking this web site for updates and events postings!
Over the past five years we have promoted the works of our loyal
clients by hosting screening nights in our infamous micro cinema
where film makers new and old could get a chance to screen their
works for their peers and the public, under the common theme films
finished at Niagara Custom Lab.
Browse the film makers profiles to get an idea of the wide range
of work still being created on film and if you are currently working
on a project or have completed one in the past with our lab and
wish to have your own profile feel free to email us some images
and a brief description of yourself and your work!
We plan to continue the tradition of screenings this winter by starting
up another series of programs; this time teaming up with Martin
from Cinecycle to give you the very best in underground cinema this
city has to offer!
Please email
us with any questions you might have about ncl or how we can
help you to realize your dreams ...
